Quiet start to the Novice/Casual Series

May 16, 2018

Wind Guru and the view through people’s windows basically said everything that was needed about the first Novice/ Casual racing Saturday; very calm. And I think most people voted with their feet.

As it had been so long since their last sail, five intrepid boats went out to make sure the race team earned their lunch. They were rewarded with one or two gusts which on a windy day would have been disappointing, however on the day a slight leeward heel was a veritable adrenaline rush.

Despite the racier sailors disappointment, it was a fantastic day for Joe Goydner and  son with one of their first outings in their newly acquired Wayfarer, yet another boat in the ever expanding family boat fleet. I also noticed Jason Knight making adjustments to his Dart accommodate his five year old son.

Full results are here.

On Sunday our reigning champion, Harvey, was out with dad, Tony, practicing in their new 2000, and with Richard and Emma also just having bought one, the season is shaping up to be a classic.

Hopefully next month the weather will be a lot more favourable and the series will get going after its inauspicious start

Remember there is always a safety boat on the water every Saturday from 2.00 if you fancy brushing up on your skills, or given the present sunny weather, a leisurely cruise around the lake.
