Oxford Zoomers had a fantastic weekend at the UKWA event at Datchet Water Sailing Club this weekend. Our new Techno board came along too giving 10 year old Michael a great start at his first national event competing with windsurfers from all over the country. After a hard days Windsurfing on Saturday he declared the new board”sick”. On Sunday it was the turn of 12 year old Daisy to try out the board. She saw an improvement in her results so was also delighted to have had the opportunity to sail on a brand new board.
Patrick, Michael and Phoebe were all competing for the 1st time at a UKWA event and under the watchful eye of coach Chloe Bennet they learnt race technique, freestyle and beach starts. The afternoon sessions saw them competing in 9 races over the 2 days. The racing was close but fantastic results for the 3 Oxford Zoomers sailors with Patrick taking a convincing 1st place in 3.5 fleet and Michael and Phoebe both getting 2nd place in the 3.5 and 4.5 fleets respectively.
Other Zoomers sailors in action were Rafferty, Daisy and Milly who all posted solid performances just missing out on podium places in their respective fleets. Many thanks to Lyon Equipment for the loan of our Bic Techno board.
