13 Oxford Zoomers travelled to Rutland Water at the weekend to compete in the National Junior Windsurfing Championships. Many of the team were attending their 1st big event and with over 130 children representing 15 different Team 15 clubs from around the country it was certainly quite a challenge.
Saturday brought sunshine and a steady breeze so everyone had a great day. Sunday saw a change of conditions with strong winds averaging 18-20 knots throughout the day. The Zoomers rose to the challenge despite having spent all summer practicing in very light conditions.
The whole team exceeded expectations but there were several notable individual performances. Patrick West won the 3.5 fleet with an impressive 4 wins and 2 second places. Will Avery was 3rd in 4.5, Lisa Milne was 3rd girl in 5.8’s, Daisy Illingworth 3rd 6.8 girl and Rafferty Read was 2nd 7.8 missing out by just 1point on the top spot!
With solid performances from the rest of the Zoomers the final team score was enough for them to be crowned National Champions.
Many thanks to all the parents for their help as well as Lyon Enterprises for the loan of a Bic Techno board this season which all the kids have had the opportunity to try.
