Here is the usual reminder that Novice/ Casual racing is taking part next Saturday 6th July.
The event is open to all members and this includes all the new members who’ve been coming to pay and play, and judging by the attendance on a Tuesday, the Novice fleet should be very competitive.
If you’re new to the club and you’re not sure if you fancy racing, pop along grab a boat, free hire, and have a cruise around the course and the safety boat will keep an eye on you.
We sign in from 9.30, briefing at 10.30, and racing at 11.00 - 12.30. Afternoon racing is from 1.30 until 3.30ish.
Presently the forecast is warm and sunny with some wind!!! Although last month the water was like glass until 11.00 when we hit the water then it picked up with people begging for more races at the end. After braving white horses on Sunday, I was thankful to land in one piece, but it was heartening to see a fleet of Novices heading onto the water, they’ve obviously caught the bug.
Any of the more experienced members of the club who fancy taking advantage of the weather and joining in some short course, fun racing pop along are very welcome. Any tips or advice to the up and coming members will be gratefully received, and you can only improve your own boat handling skills with some of the less conventional manoeuvres that take place!! This is no club racing procession.
This Saturday is a Thames Water open day and also an OSTT try sailing day, so there will be many other activities for the family and none sailors
I hope to see you there.
