Windsurfing

Windsurfing is thriving at the club with something for members of all ages and levels of experience. Here are a few examples:

Race nights (Tuesdays and Thursdays)

The Spring, Summer and Autumn series start at 6 pm.

Having a Blast

When the wind is up dinghies may come in but for many windsurfers that is when the fun starts, to find out more just ask someone with a huge smile when they come off the water.

During each year members log their fastest times and the fastest gets the trophy.  Currently all are chasing the goal of 40 knotts.

Many people just come along when the wind is up expecting others to be there, some send messages on OSC Facebook.

Club Championships

This annual event is held during August; please see the OSC Events calendar on the homepage for further details.

..... and with only a small group we were able to really focus on technique. A guest appearance from Paul K saw him making some small changes to kit set up which made a big difference to performance. Newcomer Lucien had a 1:1 with James and by the end of the evening was really getting to grips with the slightly gusty wind and choppy water.

If you want get into windsurfing and don't know how or you can already win...

Last week at Zoomers it was great to see some new faces fresh off their OSTT courses. They all made great progress and had a lot of fun. We even had a guest from Spain - I think he may have noticed that it was a little cooler than Alicante but hopefully he enjoyed himself too. Meanwhile the more experienced enjoyed showing Matt how to race on a techno board😁

If any windsurfing members (open to all ages) are interested in coming along to the Monday evening race training then Rob and HB would love to have you along. There has also been some interest with regard to foiling tuition so this is also a possibility. If you are interested then please message Rob and HB directly with any questions. They would need to know on a week by week basis who is attending so that the coaching could b...

Would you love to windsurf with other teenagers?

We are trialing a new windsurfing youth group for OSC windsurfing members aged 16 and above. This will run alongside Zoomers on a Thursday evening with immediate effect.

The intention is to encourage youngsters to get on the water and have fun with like minded people. You can use your own kit or borrow club kit although Zoomers will have priority use of techno boards and rigs t...

A fantastic 1st Interclub for Oxford Zoomers and Portsmouth Planers at Farmoor yesterday. Sunshine and a good breeze meant that we had 6 closely fought races for each fleet and a skills challenge. Many of the Zoomers were racing for the 1st time on a larger sail size so it was great to see everyone coping well, especially as the wind was shifty and a bit variable.

The battle for the team trophy could not have been closer. Off...

This weekend saw Oxford Sailing Club play host to the last of the current series of RYA Zone Squad training sessions. No fewer than eight members of the Squad had been selected from Oxford Zoomers, which was a great achievement.

Harry, Lisa & Heather had to balance their attendance with some all-important exam revision, and Patrick was unfortunately unable to join us this weekend. However, a great time was had by everyone who w...

Great fun for the Zoomers last night. Conditions were a little tricky, particularly for the newer members, with an offshore wind and some surprising sudden gusts, but everybody acquitted themselves extremely well. There was even an opportunity for a bit of foiling for a Zoomers dad!

Looking forward to next week.....

A great weekend of windsurfing culminated in Milly being crowned top 7.8 girl and 4th 7.8 overall. She was joined on the podium by Heather who was 2nd 4.5 girl. There were other strong performances from the Zoomers, Michael was 7th 4.5 boy, just let down only by a lack of experience in the strong winds on day 1. In the 5.8 class Will was 8th boy, again struggling on day 1 but finishing strongly in the light winds. Phoebe was a...

After a great season's racing results, our juniors have now had more success with squad selection

Jon Tweedle who leads the OSC pirates said "Very proud to announce that Pirates Arlo, Emma and Felix have been selected for RYA Zone Squad!!! They’ve worked so hard this year to develop and as you can imagine I’m delighted for them!"

Gaeth Greenfield infomed us that Bea had been successfully selected for the South region Optimist zo...
